Abstract
This community service program aimed to improve the scientific writing skills of students at Muhammadiyah X Junior High School in Malang City, particularly their ability to develop the background, methods, data, findings, and conclusions of a scientific paper. The program employed a one-group pretest-posttest design by integrating Wallas’s four stages of creativity preparation, incubation, illumination, and verification with the principles of project-based learning (PjBL). The program was conducted over three sessions and involved 22 ninth-grade students working in 11 groups. Students’ scientific writing skills were assessed using a rubric covering five components: background, methods, data, findings, and conclusions. The data were analyzed using a paired-sample t-test. The results demonstrated an improvement in students’ scientific writing performance, with the mean score increasing from 10.364 at pretest to 11.455 at posttest. The paired-sample t-test indicated a statistically significant difference between the scores before and after the program (t = -4.353, df= 10, p < 0.001), with a Cohen’s d of -1.312. These findings suggest that integrating Wallas’s stages of creativity with PjBL has the potential to effectively enhance junior high school students’ scientific writing skills. This approach provides students with opportunities to identify problems, develop ideas, conduct simple investigations, produce scientific papers, receive feedback, and improve their writing through reflection and revision
